Abelio Rivera

Surrounded by his loving family, Abelio Rivera, 87, Hummelstown, passed away Monday, April 13, 2020 at his home following an unexpected illness.

Born April 28, 1932 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Aguedo Rivera and Dolores Marrero and was also preceded in death by his brothers: Hector Rivera and Pedro Rivera and his sister: Fela Rivera.

He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Harrisburg.

A carpenter for most of his life, Abelio always kept his hands busy – building and fixing things, fishing, and playing the guitar and accordion. He also enjoyed going to the horse races. Mostly, his greatest joy was caring for and spending time with his beloved family.

Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Rosa Maria (Melendez) Rivera; seven children: Luis A. Rivera, Tampa, FL, Migdalia Vega (Riscardo), Harrisburg, José N. Rivera (Sandra Santos), Harrisburg, Yolanda Rivera (Angel Rodriguez), Harrisburg, Maria D. Mejia (Samuel), New Cumberland, José A. Rivera (Iris), Harrisburg, and Carmen D. Delgado (Ariel), Harrisburg; 2 sisters: Maria Rivera (Chino) and Juanita Rivera (Miguel), Puerto Rico; 23 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephew, other family members and dear friends.

Private services will be held at Paxtang Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
