Anna K. (Forney) Showers

Anna K. "Kate" (Forney) Showers, 96, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at ManorCare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Camp Hill.
Born June 11, 1918 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late John W. Forney, Sr. and Isabel (Nissley) Forney, and was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lydia May Showers, her brother John "Jack" W. Forney, Jr, and her sister, Lydia May Forney.
She was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone and enjoyed knitting. She was a member of the former First Church of God on 4th Street in Harrisburg, where she had been organist for 24 years and was a former secretary.
Her beloved husband, Richard H. Showers, passed away in 1996 after over 55 years of marriage.
Surviving is her son: Richard D. (and his wife, Mary Anne) Showers, Berlin; her daughters: Anne L. Forbes, Camp Hill and M. Susan (and her husband, Vincent) VanGorden, Linden, NJ; one brother: Robert E. Forney, Pittsburgh; 7 grandchildren: Matthew Showers, Elizabeth Lobdell, Cristy Shearer, Toni Wray, Amy Early, Tiffany Adams, and Ken VanGorden; and 15 great grandchildren.
A service celebrating her life will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, where there will be a visitation at 2:30 pm. Burial in East Harrisburg Cemetery will be held at the family's convenience.
