Antonia Aviles

With the gentlest smile on her face, Antonia Aviles, 67, passed away peacefully at her home in Harrisburg.

Born September 24, 1951 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Miguel Malave and Irma Julia Malave-Echevarria and was also preceded in death by her sister, Margarita Perez and her brothers, Louie Malave and José Perez.

Raised in the Catholic Church, her family moved from Puerto Rico to Manhattan when she was a child, and she lived there most of her life, prior to moving to Connecticut and finally to Harrisburg five years ago.

Antonia was a homebody who loved her family more than anything, and was truly the magnet for all the get-togethers. She loved having pictures taken, preserving forever the precious memories of those gatherings. An amazing cook, she also enjoyed crossword puzzles, soap operas and any kind of horror movie. You could often find Antonia listening and dancing to many types of music.

Surviving is her husband of 28 years (and best friend of 45 years): Richard R. Aviles; her daughter: Margarita Burgos (and her husband, Daniel), Harrisburg; her sister: Nilda Malave, Tampa, FL; her brothers: Angel Malave, Harrisburg and Steve Perez, Brooklyn; 3 grandchildren: Anthony Delgado, Amanda Gutierrez, and Daniel Burgos II; 5 great grandchildren (plus one on the way): Mariah Delgado, Javier Delgado, Daniel Burgos III, DeAngelo Burgos, and Divinity Burgos; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and dear friends, all of whom will miss her greatly.

Services will be held 12:00 pm Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, with Father Philip White officiating.

Burial will be in Shoop’s Garden of Rest Cemetery.

There will be a viewing from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
