Bertha Ann (Epperly) Wood, 90, of Harrisburg, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020.
Born October 26, 1929 in Moberly, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late William and Viola (Smith) Epperly and was also preceded in death by her husband, DeWitt C. Wood, her first husband, August Jatras,and her brothers and their wives: Charles and Phyllis Epperly, William and Frances Epperly, James and Carol Epperly and Kenneth and Freda Epperly.
An active member of Paxton Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg, Bert belonged to the church’s Bible Circle and Kirker’s Sunday School Class.
A gifted seamstress, she was the owner of Bertha Wood Upholstery. She worked as a bookkeeper for the State and also volunteered in the office at her church, (the former) Villa Teresa Nursing Home, Osteopathic Hospital, and Rutherford House.
She was a member of Paxtang Lions Club, Paxtang Civic Club (where she was Past President) and Rutherford Senior Citizens Center.
Surviving is her daughter: Victoria M. Wood (and Steven Nadell), Takoma Park, MD; one sister: Joyce Short (and Marvin), Anderson, IN; one brother: Alfred “Butch” Epperly (and Janet), Anderson, IN; nieces and nephews and their families; and many dear friends, all of whom will miss her greatly.
There will be a viewing from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg. Private services will be held Monday at the funeral home.
Face coverings, social distancing and a 25 person limit at any time inside the building will be mandated.
