Billy H. Burnside, 99, of Greene, NY, formerly of Harrisburg, PA went to his eternal reward Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his daughter’s home in Greene. He was born March 4, 1916 in Bridgeport, Ohio to the late Charles and Mary Ann Burnside.
He leaves behind his wife of 72 years, Eva Burnside. He is also survived by his son, Bill (Janet) Burnside of Waco, TX and two daughters, Brenda (Dennis) Symons of Greene, NY and Esther Burnside of Harrisburg, PA, 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Hutyra, Heidi Burnside, David Burnside, Teresa Symons, Michelle Symons, Eric Symons, Alan Symons, Michael Symons, Brittany Symons and Christina Symons; and 9 great grandchildren, Courtney Hutyra, William Hutyra, Tyler Davis, Ryleigh Moore, Noah Symons, Seth Symons, Tyler Symons, Krista Symons and Isaiah Symons.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Burnside and Gladys Prout, and 6 brothers, David, Paul, Jim, Leland, Wallace, and Arthur.
Bill proudly served his country in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Force, serving overseas for 2 years. In 1957 he became an ordained minister in the Free Methodist Church and pastored in Wellsville, OH, Follansbee, WV, and Hookstown, PA. In 1960 he joined the Evangelical Wesleyan Church and pastored churches in Warren, PA and Harrisburg, PA.
He also worked at Globe Refractories in Newell, WV as a clay miner, retiring in 1978.
He loved his family, his church, and his church family. He also loved reading and gardening. Most importantly, he will be remembered for being a praying man.
Services will be held 12:00 pm Friday, February 12, 2016 at Evangelical Wesleyan Church, 4727 Marblehead Street, Harrisburg where there will be a viewing at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
