Be still, and know that I am God
Psalm 46:10
Brenda Boyer Waleff, 55, of West Hanover Township, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Community General Osteopathic Hospital after battling multiple health issues.
Born April 25, 1961 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Harvey A. "Haps" Boyer, Jr. and Shirley (Shively) Boyer, and was also preceded in death by her sister, Jill Denise Thomas. Brenda was a 1979 graduate of Susquehanna Township High School, where she was class President and active in the drama productions. She was instrumental in planning the class reunions, as well. In 1983, she received her BA in Journalism and Communications from Shippensburg University. While at college, she was a member of the Society of Collegiate Journalists and the Masquers Group, was a DJ for WSYC radio and became a member of the Alumnae Board. She continued her work in radio after college, and was known as Angel Alexander on country station Z107 until 1988. She then worked as a customer service manager for the TV Host magazine until 2000.
From 2000 until her passing, she worked for the Penn Central Conference of the United Church of Christ, where she was the first person commissioned to the position of Minister of Communications. Many considered her to be the continuity of the Conference, always there to assist new members as well as old. She was also a member of the UCC Disabilities Board of Directors, playing a role in helping that ministry raise $100,000 for the Virginia Kreyer Scholarship, an annual scholarship for theological education in honor of the foremother of Disabilities Ministries movement in the UCC. She was an active member of Faith United Church of Christ, Grantville and there was the Chair of Evangelism Outreach, Chair of Mission Committee, Director (with her daughter) of the Youth Pageants and Vice President of the Church Consistory.
Brenda was the Founding President of the Venture Club of Harrisburg and was the North Atlantic Regional Governor and National Secretary of the Club.
Always deeply involved with her children and their school, she was the current President of the Central Dauphin High School PTSO and Central Dauphin Ice Hockey Club; was the Founding President of the Central Dauphin Softball Boosters and was Past President of the West Hanover Elementary School PTA. In memory of her father, she was also the Public Relations and Special Events Coordinator for the Haps Boyer Baseball Tournament.
As active as she was with her work and organizations, Brenda always made time for her beloved family, especially when they could travel together. She and her husband, Lou, met at Z107 and married September 20, 1986. For a period of time, they shared their DJ talents with their company, BrenLu Productions.
Surviving are her loving husband, Louis M. Waleff, Jr. and her precious children, Megan A. Waleff and Dustin A. Waleff; her brother in law, Ron Thomas, Westminster, MD and his children, Zac and Olivia; her parents in law, Louis and MaryAnn Waleff, Elizabethtown; many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws; and a host of friends and co-workers, all of whom will miss her greatly.
Services will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 15, 2016 at her church, 117 N. Faith Road, Grantville, with the Rev. George E. Robertson, her pastor, officiating.
There will be a viewing Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg and from 9:00 am to 10:30 am Monday at the church.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
