Cynthia M. (Cyndi) Staats

September 14, 1961 — August 16, 2021

Harrisburg

Although she spent years bravely battling multiple illnesses, Cynthia M. Staats, 59, of Harrisburg, passed away rather unexpectedly at Harrisburg Hospital on Monday, August 16, 2021.

Born September 14, 1961 in Del Rio, Texas to the late Richard and Reiko “Betty” (Fujio) Staats, Cyndi was a typical Air Force Brat; moving with her family from Texas to Arizona to New Mexico to Alaska, and finally, to Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Susquehannock High School in 1979.  She furthered her education at Penn State and York College, and also served her country as a veteran of the Army Reserves.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother,  Ricky Staats, and his daughter, Skylar.
From her multiple moves while she was young, Cyndi developed the ability to make friends easily, with her warm personality and winning smile.  To this day, she will be remembered for her contagious laugh, silly dancing and mostly, her beautiful soul.  She was a life member of the New Cumberland VFW Auxiliary; a life member of the West End Republican Club; an Annual member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and a member of the William Penn Social Association.  She enjoyed going to the Brownstone; reading; cheering on the Dallas Cowboys; and any time she could spend outdoors, especially camping.  With her love of plants, she had her own shop at one point – WhyldeThymes Plant Shop, in New Cumberland.
Cyndi is survived by her cousins:  Valerie (David) Hurst, Paula Sue Staats, Michelle (Scott) Miles, Jayson Staats and Christy (Wesley) Walls; her aunt:  Paula Ann Staats; dear friends:  Theresa Golden and Teri Boyd; her beloved pets, Monkey (her cat) and Geeky (her gecko); and many other friends.  She was loved and adored by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.
Per her last wishes, and since Viking funerals aren’t allowed (what she really wanted), there will be no services scheduled.  Those who loved her are encouraged to share remembrances here and whenever they are together.
Since there are no services, and because of her love for animals, contributions in her memory should be made to the Humane Society of Harrisburg, Inc., 7790 Grayson Road, Harrisburg, 17111 or https://humanesocietyhbg.org/get-involved/donate/.
Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
