Dimas Vega, 88, Lower Paxton Township, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 12, 2018.
Born April 25, 1929 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Mariano Vega and Christina Rodriguez Vega and was also preceded in death by his two brothers.
His family moved to New York when Dimas was in his early teens, and he lived in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens until his move to Harrisburg in 2002. On April 4, 1953, he married the love of his life, Nilda Borras. They were married for 64 years when she passed away in 2017. Although his family misses him greatly, they take comfort in knowing that Dimas and Nilda are together in Heaven.
In Brooklyn, Dimas owned the bodega ‘Mom and Pop Deli’, from which he retired in 1994 to help his daughter raise her children. This act of love was truly the essence of him; a devoted and loving family man who would do anything for those he loved. Although quiet and reserved, his family never doubted the depth of his love for them.
Dimas enjoyed Spanish music, volunteering with his wife at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where he was a member, and dominoes. In fact, he had a professionally made domino table and won many trophies in dominoes in his native Puerto Rico.
Surviving is his daughter, Lizette Vega Hess, Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Cynthia Zambardino and Justin Zambardino; one great granddaughter, Sophia Dottle and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg. There will be a viewing from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
