Donald K. Epler, 84, Swatara Township, passed away Friday, January 22, 2016 surrounded by his loving wife and family at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born June 13, 1931 in Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Jay Gordon "Gordy" and Leona (Reichenbach) Epler; was a 1949 graduate of Lewisburg High School and received his business degree from Drexel University in 1954. An accomplished vocalist, he participated in many productions in high school and college. While still in high school, he joined the National Guard during the Korean Conflict and retired at age 65 from SHS International Incorporated as a professional recruiter.
After he retired, he took great pleasure in flying radio controlled airplanes, and became a member and treasurer of the Keystone Radio Control Society. In addition to flying, he enjoyed gardening, model railroad setups and wine making. He loved animals, especially his dog, Misha (who was his baby) and his departed dog, Buddy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Harriet Glise Epler; 5 children: Linda Haft (and husband, Doug), Athens, Alabama, Lori Warner (and husband, Mike), Royersford, PA, Beth Epler, Reading, Jay Epler (and wife, Sherry), Reading and Robert Epler (and wife, Katie), Minneapolis, Minnesota; one sister: Beverly Harvey (and husband, Don), Lewisburg; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 5 stepchildren and their families.
Services will be held 1:30 pm Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, with the Rev. John Green officiating. There will be a viewing from 1:00 pm until the time of services Thursday. Burial in Paxton Churchyard will be held at the convenience of the family.
