With his beloved wife by his side, Edmund G. Roberts, 76, Harrisburg, went to be with his Heavenly Savior on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Holy Spirit Hospital.
Born November 20, 1944 in Trinidad, he was the son of the late Gordon and Sylvia (Roberts) Morris and was retired from the State Department of Revenue.
He was a member of Breath of Life Ministries, Harrisburg, where he regularly played the congas for services.
After his retirement, Eddie found that he did not like to be idle. Loving horses from an early age, he worked as a barn helper at Penn National Race Course and other local barns and had been a Telebet call taker at the Race Course. Additionally, he worked in the produce departments of several local stores. Growing up in Trinidad, his grandmother sold vegetables at the market, and gave him the knowledge to grow his own and manage grocery produce. Truly, he loved being outdoors, growing his fruits and vegetables, flowers and plants, and just enjoying his backyard and talking with friends on his front porch. During football season, when he wasn’t outside, he could be found watching (and often yelling at) the television when his Steelers were playing. Always active, he played soccer when he was younger, and still enjoyed walking, biking and roller skating with his grandchildren, who often referred to him as their best friend. He loved Soca/Calypso music, and enjoyed playing it constantly, sometimes fairly loudly. Eddie was well known as a great story teller, unless you asked him about his secret curry recipe.
While still living with their parents in Harrisburg, Eddie and his brother Fitzroy would drive up to NYC. They had a spot on 125th Street in Harlem where they would set up tables and sell wigs. He and Roy would cut the wigs while people had them on. Doing this made the brothers a lot of money and made many people very happy.
He is survived by his wife of over 25 years: Ruth A. (Johnson) Roberts; his children: Rachel Morris, Trinidad, Edmund Williams, Harrisburg, Rasheed Wyant, Greece, and Dominic Lawson (and his wife, Kirsten), Harrisburg; 7 siblings: Victor Morris, Trinidad, Ann Whiteman (and her husband, John), Virginia, Lynn Stevenson (and her husband, Burnie), Harrisburg, Fitzroy Morris, New Jersey, Dianne Bissoon, Florida, Yvonne Jones (and her husband, James), Harrisburg, and Harold Morris Clark; 8 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends.
Services will be held 11:00 am Monday, November 22, 2021 at his church, 6340 Derry Street, Harrisburg, with Pastor Bruce J. Smith, Sr officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Monday.
Burial will be in Shoop’s Garden of Rest, Harrisburg.
Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
