George R. Moad, 90, formerly of Camp Hill, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.
Born November 13, 1925 in Lewistown, he was the son of the late William Moad and Sarah (Smith) Willow and Ammon Willow. Following his high school graduation, he entered the Army Air Force and served his country from 1943-1945. He was a graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, and from his licensure in 1952 was the funeral director and supervisor at W. Orville Kimmel Funeral Home in Harrisburg until his retirement in 2014. He was a member of NFDA, PFDA and Capital City Funeral Director's Association. He was also a long-time member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camp Hill.
Since 1953, George has dedicated his time to serving on many Masonic Bodies. He was a 63 year member of Robert Burns Lodge Lodge #464, F&AM where he was Worshipful Master in 1961 and Aide to the Right Worshipful Grand Master from 1987-1989; and was a member of Harrisburg Consistory and Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Forest #43 and the York Rite Bodies. In addition, he was thrice Potent Master, Harrisburg Lodge of Perfection (1979-80); Treasurer of all the Bodies (1982-85); and Commander-in-Chief (1991-94). In 1984, he was coroneted 33° and was Sovereign Grand Inspector General. He was a member of the Supreme Council in 1994 and currently is an Active Emeritus Member of the Supreme Council.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Virginia S. (Stover) Moad; one brother: William Moad (Ruth), Denver, PA; 3 sisters: Norma R. Peck (Harold), Atglen, PA, LaDonna M. Shirk (Stanley), Richfield and Karen L. Swartz, Richfield; many nieces and nephews; 3 stepchildren: William Morecraft (Cathy), Jim Thorpe, Kayellen Smith (Kent), Concord, NH and Andrew Morecraft (Dorit), Chapel Hill, NC and their families; and many colleagues, friends and brothers in the Lodge.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 am until 11:30 am Friday at Sell Chapel at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. Masonic Services will begin at 11:30 followed by the funeral service with The Rev. Dr. Guy S. Edmiston, Jr. and Rev. A. Preston Van Deursen officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
