James Colon, affectionately known to all as Jimmy, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 in Harrisburg. His passing has left a profound sadness in all who knew and loved him.
Born January 3, 1985 in Caguas, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Carmen V. Colon. He worked as a mechanic; was a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and was a current member of Capital City Church.
Friendly and outgoing, his character was perfect for the time he spent volunteering at the soup kitchen and making deliveries for Mama’s Pizza. Jimmy had a good heart and would drop everything to help someone else. Active in the community, he knew all the police and firefighters and would often help them in some capacity. A man of strong emotions which he wore on his sleeve, he wasn’t shy, by any means. When you saw him, Jimmy always had a story to tell which inevitably brought a smile to whoever was listening. He had a colorful personality and enjoyed cheering on the Eagles and the Yankees.
Mourning this great loss is his mother: Carmen Colon: his son: Dakota; his dearest friend: Jessica Kell; his siblings: Juan Colon, Yashira Maldonado (and her husband, Anthony), and José Fernandez-Colon; his aunts and uncles: Isodoro Colon, Maria A. Colon, Isaias Colon, Lydia E. Colon Detterer and Alexandra Rivera Colon; his nieces and nephews: Genesis Queen-King, Aviana Fernandez, Anthony Maldonado, Janalize Fernandez, Zhi Curry, Ariel Fernandez, and Cassius Fernandez; great nieces and nephews: Anaiva, Kaui, Naesiek, and Zephyr; many, many cousins; and so many friends who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of his life will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Kimmel Funeral Home, 2001 Market Street, Harrisburg, where friends are welcome to spend time with the family from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
