Jared Walter Smith, 30, Harrisburg passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 30, 2019.
Born October 8, 1988, he lived in Harrisburg all his life, was a member of Paxton Presbyterian Church and attended Central Dauphin East High School.
He worked at Aero Performance until the day he was called home and now joins in Heaven his beloved grandparents, Walter and Marjorie Hatkevich.
He was loved by many and despite his size, he was known as a gentle giant. Jared loved his mother and two sisters dearly and was a fierce protector of them. He was loyal, reliable and dependable when it came to the three ladies in his life. He was the best uncle to his nephews and niece and godfather to his godson, whom he all loved dearly. He was always gentle, kind, generous and ever ready to make sure his family and friends had the best time when he was around.
Known to many as "Mr. Fix It”, he loved working with his hands and was able to fix and build anything. Jared loved to ride motorcycles and he came to rest doing the very thing he was passionate about. He also loved body art, and those who knew him, knew if he could have covered his entire body with art, he would have.
All the memories the family has of Jared will be forever cherished. He will be sorely missed in the physical, but his memory will live on in their hearts forever.
Surviving is his mother, Joyce E. (Hatkevich) Smith, Harrisburg; his older sister, Grace Jones (and her husband, Mack), of Lorton, VA, his ride or die baby sister, Bethany Smith, Harrisburg; his 2 nephews, Josiah Watts and Mack Jones III, his niece Eleanor Jones, his dog and “baby”, Luna; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins and many, many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Paxton Presbyterian Church, 3500 Sharon Street, Harrisburg, with the Rev. John Green officiating. Friends will be received from 10:00 am until 11:30 am Saturday at the church.
Following the Memorial Service, please join us at the Friendship Fire Company Club, 757 Main Street, Bressler, to celebrate and honor Jared’s life, with food and drinks, like Jared would want to! Bring your favorite stories and memories to share in his honor.
A GoFundMe account has been set up and anything beyond the cost of his services will go to a college account for his nephews and niece.
