Jean Esther Fleming, 86, from Upper Allen Township, peacefully passed away at home on July 13, 2024. On this day, she entered the safest place anyone could be - Jehovah God's loving memory, eagerly anticipating the resurrection to a paradise earth. As John 5:25, 28-29 beautifully assures us, "the hour is coming, and it is when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who have paid attention will live...the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out..."
Born July 16, 1937, in Emporia, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Rosa (Lewis) Fleming. Following graduation in 1955 from Lafayette High School in Buffalo, NY, Jean furthered her education at Morgan State College in Baltimore and ultimately received her RN degree from the Provident School of Nursing in 1961. She finished her 43-year nursing career at Capital Blue Cross, retiring in 2002.
Jean loved her Creator Jehovah with all her heart and was a dedicated and faithful member of the Christian congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for more than six decades. She devoted much of her life to studying the Bible and Bible-based publications as well as teaching people the good news of the Kingdom.
Her love for cooking was evident; her mac-and-cheese and cornbread will forever be missed. Finding peace in gardening, enjoying fresh cut flowers, and watching butterflies dance around brought her immense joy. Music resonated deeply with Jean; singing along was one of her simple pleasures.
Alongside her parents, Jean joins in peaceful rest her beloved son: Adrian Ashley Fleming and siblings: Harrison Fleming Jr., Elsie Haskins, and Naomi Roberts.
Left behind to cherish her memory are daughter-in-law: Mellisa C. Fleming; grandchildren: Danielle A. Foley (and husband Scott) and Darrien R. Fleming; step-grandchildren: Nykia J. Thomas, J'von B.A. Thomas, Lael V. Thomas; great-grandchild: Kaleb J. Foley; cousin: Thomas Ratcliff; many other cousins, nieces, and nephews; and a vast spiritual family.
Jean's legacy as a beautiful soul dedicated to Jehovah will forever resonate within her extended family and friends who deeply cherished her presence.
A memorial service commemorating Jean's life will be held at the Harrisburg Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 4331 Rodkey Road, Harrisburg at 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 10, 2024.
