Paxtang
Borough, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Messiah Village in
Mechanicsburg
surrounded by her loving family.
Born December 5, 1918 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Jacobs) Appleby; and was a 1937 graduate of John Harris High School and a 1941 graduate of William and Mary College.
Jeannette was a member of Paxton Presbyterian Church, where she served as both Elder and Deacon, taught Sunday School for many years, and enjoyed being involved with her beloved Circle Two. She was in several book clubs, gave outstanding book reviews to various groups and organizations, read to the blind, and volunteered in the local elementary school. She was also a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
Jeannette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a living example of God's love and faith and touched everyone she knew with her warm smile and caring ways.
She was the widow of Dr. Thomas W. Holtzman, who passed away in 2011 after 70 years of marriage. In addition, she was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Thomas W. Holtzman, Jr., two grandchildren, Jan R.

and Zachery T. Holtzman, three sisters, Lucille
Beckner
, Irene
Harkness
and Betsy Wagner, and a brother, John W. Appleby, Jr.
Surviving is her daughter, Emily J. Ruckle (and husband Steve),
Bloomsburg
and son, James A. Holtzman (and wife Cheryl), Harrisburg; her daughter in law, Dolly Holtzman, Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Douglas Ruckle (Tara), Jessica Holtzman-Rich (Mike) , Megan Cook (
Sundar
), Daniel Holtzman (Kristin) and John Holtzman (April) ; her sister, Ruth
Wenzell
, Florida; and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, October 5, 2013 at her church, 3500 Sharon Street, Paxtang with Rev. John Green, her pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
Contributions may be made in her memory to her church, 3500 Sharon St., Harrisburg, 17111 or to the Endowment Fund at Messiah Village, Gift Development, 100 Mt. Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, 17055. Her family would like to thank the staff at Messiah, where she resided since 2011, who all gave her such wonderful and compassionate care.
