HUSBAND, FATHER, HERO
Joseph F. Doncevic, 66, of Lower Paxton Township, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Carolyn’s House, Harrisburg. Although he spent years valiantly fighting multiple illnesses, he always smiled through the pain and kept his sense of humor intact until the end.
Born March 26, 1953 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Mary Miller and the late George Doncevic, and was also preceded in death by his brothers, George Doncevic and William Doncevic.
Joe graduated from John Harris High School and spent four years in the Army. He worked in warehousing with an emphasis on Shipping and Receiving Departments, most recently at Conestoga Tile, until he was too ill to work.
A member of Crosspoint United Methodist Church, Harrisburg for almost 15 years, Joe exemplified the meaning of hospitality. Whether it was his team’s week for greeting or not, Joe could always be found catching up with church members and welcoming newcomers. He was also a fixture at the Crosspoint Food Pantry at Rutherford, fulfilling his desire for community outreach. A former member of the choir and a member of several small groups, Joe truly loved spending time with his church family.
Joe was an absolute audiophile. Since his Army days, he had an affinity for stereo equipment and the sound produced. Traveling around to the local audio stores and collecting various components became a favorite pastime for him, and he was well regarded by the employees of those shops. Sound quality was of the utmost importance, whether listening to his smooth jazz, enjoying a Penn State game or having regular Friday “Dinner and a Movie” nights with his wife and son.
Surviving is his wife of 37 years, Cynthia E. (Bass) Doncevic; his son, Joshua N. Doncevic, Harrisburg; his sister, Brenda J. Marcus (and husband, Albert), Baltimore; his half-sister, Kelly Doncevic, Middletown; his brother-in-law, Michael E. Bass, Maynard, MA; nieces and nephews; and many friends and other family members, all of whom will miss him greatly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 7:00 pm Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Crosspoint Church, 430 Colonial Road, Harrisburg, with the Rev. David Biser, officiating. Friends will be received from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the church.
