Following a three year valiant battle with cancer and with her family at her side, Joyce K. (McCutcheon) Gill, 74, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2020 at her home in Masonic Village.
Born July 16, 1945 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late George and Clara (Ring) McCutcheon and was a 1964 graduate of William Penn High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all of her brothers: George McCutcheon, Carl McCutcheon and Kenneth McCutcheon and her beloved granddaughter: Brittanny Mae McCutcheon.
Joyce was retired from the State, but was well known for her years as a bartender and server at many area restaurants, the VFW, American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.
She was a life member of the William Penn Social Association and the VFW Post 7530 and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 329, Elizabethtown.
Much of her free time was spent playing games on her computer; she also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, bingo, poker, crocheting and being crafty. Although she was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, she was known to root for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mostly, Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and dear friend, all of whom were greatly loved by her.
Surviving is her husband of 36 years: Herman “Spark” R. Gill, Jr.; her 3 daughters: Lisa Hower (John), Michelle McCutcheon and Tammy Dietz (Linn II); 6 grandchildren: John Hower, Jr., Kayana Hower, Eddie Peters, Anthony Peters, Aiden Dietz, and Linn Dietz III; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be planned closer to her birthday in July.
Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
