Leona E. (Welch) Quick

February 2, 1927 — June 13, 2019

Grantville

Leona E. Quick, 92, of East Hanover Township, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Hershey Medical Center.

Born February 2, 1927 in the Harrisburg area, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (McClenahan) Welch. Leona was the widow of Wilbur Quick, who passed away in 1980 after 35 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her son, James E. Quick and was the last of twelve siblings.

Leona had worked as a paper cutter operator at a print shop; but was most proud of her time as a welder for airplanes during WWII. A modest, “down-home” kind of woman, she was equally comfortable wearing dresses all the time yet gathering up her skirts to ride a motorcycle. She enjoyed collecting dolls, crocheting, quilting, and reading, (especially classic western and Amish novels); and her favorite hobbies were doing word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and adult coloring books. She enjoyed travelling to Arizona to visit her son and his family along with her sister and her family.

Surviving is her daughter: Darlene H. Hockersmith (and her husband, John), Walnut Bottom; 5 granddaughters: Kelly Stauffer (and her husband, Bryan), Dinene Quick (and her husband, Curtis Bowerman), Kati Riley (and her husband, Damon), Dawn Quick and Theresa Quick; 5 great grandchildren: Katelynn Bomgardner, Matthew Bomgardner (and his wife, Jaymie), Shawn Bomgardner, Michael Tarrant and Genis Tarrant; 3 great great grandchildren: Ivy Marie Bomgardner, Alana Tarrant and Graysen Brown; 3 step-granddaughters: Alycia Blomgren Sanchez (and her husband, Jose), Michelle Lanfor and Misty Dudley and their families; her daughter-in-law: Rose Blomgren; and her former grandson-in-law: Andrew Bomgardner (and his wife, Cori).

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm on June 29th, 2019 at Vibrant Christian Church, 1775 Lamb’s Gap Road, Mechanicsburg with Nick Bertram officiating. Family visitation is before the service from 12:30 pm – 1:15 pm.
