Martha A. (Murphy) Wagner

February 25, 1930 — August 30, 2021

Harrisburg

Martha A. (Murphy) Wagner, 91, of Harrisburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Born February 25, 1930 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late A. Earl and Anna Laura (Gruber) Murphy and was a 1948 graduate of John Harris High School. In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her sister: Mary E. Shook.

She was retired from AMP as a Traffic Correspondent. A longtime member with her sister of Calvary United Methodist Church, she had been a member of the money counters group; helped assemble the monthly newsletter and was a volunteer receptionist at the church for years. She loved to help with the Easter candy and regularly attended the Young at Heart Club.

Her crocheting talents were well known – many of her family members have an afghan made by her. Fiercely independent and feisty, she drove well into her late 80s, transporting her church friends to functions. One of her greatest joys was taking long weekend drives with her son, David. Martha had quite the green thumb, and managed to bring many plants back to life. She cherished time with her family and every Christmas Eve took them all to Progress Grill for dinner and back home for Christmas cookies.

Surviving are her children: David E. Wagner, Harrisburg; George H. Wagner (and Barb), Mt. Joy; and Laura A. Schmoyer (and Todd), Cañon City, CO; 2 Grandchildren: Lindsey Dunkle (and Nathan Krepps) and Gregory Dunkle; 2 Great grandchildren: Aiden Edward Krepps and Sydney Grace Krepps; 2 nephews: William A. Shook, Jr. (and Lori) and Gary E. Shook (and Tori) and their families; and her church family and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, September 9, 2021 at East Harrisburg Cemetery, 2260 Herr Street, Harrisburg, with Rev. Randall Bennett, Jr., her pastor, officiating.

Contributions in her memory may be made to her church, 4700 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, 17109.

Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
