Michael Stanley Wydra, affectionately known as “Spider”, age 64, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Harrisburg on Friday, August 6, 2021.
Born March 10, 1957 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Stanley Wydra and Nancy (Wasson) Wydra, and was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Michael Hill.
He was a 1975 graduate of Central Dauphin High School, where he played on the football team. He was currently employed by Tracker Boats at Bass Pro, and had previously worked for PP&L for over 33 years. At both jobs, Michael received awards for outstanding customer service and for always going “above and beyond”.
An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of the West Shore Gun Club hunting camp in Potter County and loved hunting and deep-sea fishing. Michael was a true “River Rat”, spending summers at his place on Shelley Island and boating on the Susquehanna River. He was a member of several local social clubs; was a fan of Penn State football; loved dogs, John Wayne movies, Frank Sinatra, and old cars (especially old Caddys).
Surviving are his two sons: William M. Wydra, Hershey and Steven A. Wydra, Harrisburg; two sisters: Patrice A. Hill, Jacksonville, FL and Elizabeth A. Whitacre, Harrisburg; 5 grandchildren: Chase Snyder, Silas Wydra, Soren Wydra, Skyler Wydra, and Sylvie Wydra; his former wife: Karen Christy, Mechanicsburg; nieces and nephews; and many friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
The memorial service will be held at The John Harris-Simon Cameron Mansion at 219 S Front Street Harrisburg Pa 17104 on Saturday September 4th, 2021 from 11:00 am-2:00 pm. Additional free parking is available at the UPMC visitor parking garage on Mary street.
