In the presence of her loving family, Nancy G. (Wasson) Wydra, 88, Lower Paxton Township, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.
Born July 25, 1932 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Anna Mary (Chamberlain) Wasson and William Wasson, was a 1950 graduate of John Harris High School and a 1953 graduate of the Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing.
Nancy was a registered nurse who retired from the State Department of Health and Human Services. She and her staff were responsible for Nursing Home oversight, advocating for residents and their families.
She was a longtime active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, where she was involved with the church’s Food Pantry, many dinners, Easter Egg making, and many other projects and groups within her church family. Always a fighter, she battled and beat cancer at age 83. She enjoyed reading mysteries and cooking traditional Pennsylvania Dutch dishes for her beloved family.
Surviving are her children: Patrice A. Hill, Jacksonville, FL, Michael S. Wydra, Harrisburg, and Elizabeth A. Whitacre, Harrisburg; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; her dearest friend: Jackie Wass, Harrisburg; and many other friends, family members and church members.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, September 3, 2020 in her church, 4700 Locust Lane, Harrisburg, 17109, with the Rev. R. Jeffrey Fisher, her pastor, officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:30 am until 11:00 am. Burial will be in Rolling Green Cemetery.
Current Covid protocols will be strictly enforced for the service, including temperature checks, masks and social distancing for the protection of family, friends, staff and the church’s childcare center. A celebration of her life will be planned for the spring when it is safe to gather freely.
