Paul A. Remaly, 92, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.
Born March 29, 1927 in Tatamy, PA, he was the son of the late Paul S. and Marion (Warrick) Remaly, and was a 1944 graduate of Easton High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy V5 program and attended the University of Virginia while serving his country for two years. Paul graduated in 1950 from Lafayette College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Lafayette, he was elected to Tau Beta Pi, the national honorary engineering fraternity. He garnered a lifetime membership with the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. Paul had a 35 year career with Bethlehem Steel, retiring in 1985.
A 68 year member of Paxton Presbyterian Church, he served as treasurer and as a church elder and was a member of the church’s softball team. He was an avid golfer and bowler and played in the Bethlehem Steel bowling league, serving as their secretary and treasurer. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger and still enjoyed feeding and watching the birds outside.
Surviving is his devoted wife of 72 years, Dorothy A. (Davidson) Remaly, whom he married in Drexel Hill on September 6, 1947; his two sons: Donald A. Remaly (and Rochelle Murlott), Broomfield, CO and Robert P. Remaly (and Shannon Sheehy), Cedar Lake, IN; 4 siblings: Patricia Kemmerer (and Gerald), Elizabethtown, PA, Jean Hartman, Bath, PA, William Remaly, Easton, PA and Richard Remaly (and Gail Wyman), Tucson, AZ; 5 grandchildren: Rebecca (Remaly) Weitz, Westminster, CO, Gregory Remaly, Charlottesville, VA, Mark Remaly, Broomfield, CO, Nathan Remaly, Cedar Lake, IN, and Mitchell Remaly, Cedar Lake, IN; one great-grandson: Jamison Weitz, Westminster, CO; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, all of whom will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, March 14, 2020 in his church, 3500 Sharon Street, Harrisburg, with the Rev. John W. Green, his pastor, officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Burial will be in the Paxton Churchyard.
