Peter J. Koester

August 22, 1951 — October 13, 2024

Camp Hill

Peter Jerome Koester was born on August 22, 1951. He passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024 at the age of 73. He is the son of Harry and Elaine (Aronow) Koester, both of whom preceded him in death. Born in Albuquerque, N.M., he spent the majority of his years in Pennsylvania, and was raised as a teenager in Camp Hill. His surviving siblings and family are his brothers, David, Bill and John, and his two sisters Jane Sarver and Sandra Darr. He has one niece, Eliana Darr, and two nephews, Mike and Tim Dolan. He is also survived by his loving daughter and wife, Shoshanna Koester and Nancy Sponeybarger.

Beloved father, friend, and dedicated employee, he was employed for the majority of his work life at Simply Turkey and More in Camp Hill as a manager and chef. His passion for cooking and unwavering dedication are evident to all who met him. Peter didn't just come to work; he arrived early, often off the clock, ensuring everything was perfect for the day's start. He came to personally know and have personal friendships with many of his customers who felt his love through his easy manner and the tasty dishes he crafted daily.

Outside of work, Peter was the funniest man you would ever meet. He loved to have a good time and played ingenious practical jokes on those he liked. Intelligent, witty, good-looking and kind, Peter lived life on his own terms. He took up sky diving at the age of 50 and served as an escort at an abortion clinic for several years in his 30's. He was also an accomplished and aggressive racquetball player, who had mastered a wicked serve. Most of all, Peter intensely loved his family, and didn't let a day go by without expressing his love in some manner. Shoshanna describes him as "the best father a girl could ever ask for". Additionally, he was always a fierce protector of his family. He will be forever missed. However, we are grateful for the time we shared, and the memories we will always carry.

A memorial celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
