Peter T. McCollum, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at his home in Lower Paxton Township.
Born October 15, 1934, in Saxton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late James and Margaret (Buckley) McCollum and was also preceded in death by his siblings: James, Richard, William, Peter’s twin brother, Paul, Kathleen Smith, Anna Mary, Margaret “Peggy” Fulk and Patricia Baker.
Peter was a graduate of John Harris High School and Harrisburg Area Community College, where he received his degree in Business. He retired from AMP as a manager in the late 1990s.
On August 9, 1955, he married the former Helen Forbes, celebrating nearly 70 years of marriage which started as young members of their church when they were children.
He was a member of the Fairmont Community Church, Harrisburg, where he was a member of the Stewardship Committee, the kitchen and maintenance crew and was an usher. A sports fanatic, Peter played sandlot baseball and football, pitched horseshoes, (winning a State Championship), and was a past treasurer and coach for the Linglestown Little League. He could often be found cheering on the Penn State teams, especially their wrestling and football teams, and attended many football games with friends and family. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed trout fishing at Clark’s Creek and was the past president of the Dauphin County Anglers Conservation. Music played an important part in his life, and he enjoyed playing his guitar and singing Country-Western songs.
Mostly, Peter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and recently, a great grandfather who adored his family.
Surviving is his wife: Helen G. McCollum; his children: Jeffery L. McCollum, Mechanicsburg, Kenneth S. McCollum (and his wife, Donna), Harrisburg, and Jeanne M. Miller (and her husband, Richard), Harrisburg; 4 grandchildren: Travis McCollum, Weston McCollum (and his wife, Nicole), Erin McCollum, and Guy Bennardo; one great granddaughter: Maeve McCollum; his step-grandchildren: Casey Schultz (and her husband, Rob) and Michael Miller (and his wife, Brittany) and their children: Aubrey, Taylor and Sophie Schultz and Landon and Cole Miller; many nieces and nephews and their families, and a host of other friends and family members.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, February 1, 2025, at his church, Fairmont Community Church, 1211 Fairmont Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17112, with the Rev. G. David Tressler, his pastor, officiating. Friends will be received from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at the church.
