The Rev. Dr. Morton G. Glise, 100, Harrisburg, passed away Saturday at Colonial Park Care Center.
Born March 3, 1915 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Amos and Marjorie (Pruden) Glise and was a 1932 graduate of West Philadelphia High School. He attended the Collegiate Department of Eastern Baptist Seminary in Philadelphia; graduated from Waynesburg College with a B.A. degree and received his Master's Degree in Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1941. In 1961 Waynesburg College conferred on him an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree.
From 1941 until 1944 he served as Pastor of Calvary Presbyterian Church, South Harrisburg and then was called to be Pastor of Paxton Presbyterian Church, Paxtang where he served for 36 years until retirement in 1980.
Active in Ecumenical affairs, he was a member of the local Christian Churches United, and served a term as their Interim Director after retirement. He was also Interim Pastor at Market Square Presbyterian Church, Middletown Presbyterian Church and at several other local churches. He was a former member and Chairman of the Board of the Family and Children's Service of Greater Harrisburg, and also served as a member and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Presbyterian Apartments. In 1958 he was a member of President Eisenhower's "People to People Program" to the Soviet Union, sponsored by the Patriot-News.
He was the widower of Martha G. Glise, who passed away in 2010 after 75 years of marriage. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a son: John Edward Glise; and 3 sisters: Marjorie Glise, Edna Long and Edith Morgan.
Surviving is his daughter: Harriet Glise Epler, (and her husband, Donald), Harrisburg; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 4 nieces and their families.
Services will be held 12:00 pm Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Paxton Presbyterian Church, 3500 Sharon St., Harrisburg, 17111 with the Rev. John Green officiating. There will be a viewing at the church from 10:00 am until 11:30 am.
Burial will be in Paxton Churchyard.
