Robert S. Fuller, age 87, of Harrisburg, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.
Born August 15, 1930 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Stanley C. and Isabelle (Stevens) Fuller. While a student at John Harris High School, he was a Cadet Sergeant in the Harrisburg Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and a private in the HQ Company (Defense Platoon) of the 28th Division, PA National Guard.
After graduation in 1948 from High School, he attended Maryville (TN) College and received a B.S. degree in 1952. He attended Penn State briefly and then left to join the U.S. Air Force, becoming an ACW radar mechanic, stationed in New Jersey and Armstrong, Canada. Released from Active Duty as a Staff Sergeant, he worked for a time at IBM, Kingston, NY and went on to the University of Illinois from which he graduated with an M.S. in Library Science in 1961. After working in several libraries in Honolulu, Catonsville, MD, and Kutztown, he joined the State workforce in Harrisburg from which he retired as a computer analyst in the Department of Public Welfare in 1988.
Since then, he had thoroughly enjoyed the many cultural venues in the Harrisburg area; Harrisburg Symphony, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Artist groups (AAH), music and theatre groups of which there are many. Trips to New York City, Philadelphia and Baltimore for art and theatre purposes led to an opportunity to see Harrisburg’s own Margot Moser play the lead role in “My Fair Lady” during its original 5 year run on Broadway. Miss Moser was the only American actress to play the role in the original production; all the other leads were English actresses.
With his service in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Fuller qualified as a Korean War veteran, and belonged to the Penbrook American Legion Post 730.
He is survived by cousins.
A memorial service will be held 10:30 am Thursday, October 26, 2017 at his church, Camp Hill Church of God, 123 S. 21st Street, Camp Hill where there will be a visitation at 10:00 am. Military honors will follow the service. Burial will be in the South Gibson Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
