Robert Richard Reed, 82, Susquehanna Township, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born March 16, 1942, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Jacob H. and Marjorie Anna (Newhart) Reed, and was also preceded in death by his sister: Doris A. Renn.
Bob was a proud graduate of the class of 1960 at John Harris High School, Harrisburg, and furthered his education at the American Baking Institute in Chicago. He was dedicated to his family's business, Reed's Bakery, in Harrisburg, and finished out his career as a baker for Karn’s Foods. In 1964, Bob honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
He was a former member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Harrisburg; a member of the William S. Snyder Lodge 576, F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory, and Zembo Temple. He was also a member of the Lawnton and Penbrook American Legions.
As an avid sports lover, Bob was a former member of the Baseball Umpires Association, Central Pennsylvania Chapter and was a fervent fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, as well as the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Hershey Bears. One of the highlights of his life as an adult was attending the Phillies Dream Camp with some of the greatest of the team.
Travel was a significant joy for Bob, particularly his trips to Phillies Spring Training in Florida. He had an old, converted bus and later a Winnebago that were used for tailgating adventures with friends.
Surviving is his sister: Martha J. Hansen, Gettysburg; along with several nieces, nephews, and their families.
Family graveside services with military honors will be held at a later date at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
