Ronald L. Loper, Sr., 81, Enola, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family and loved ones on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
Born May 23, 1942 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Emma (Fraelich) Loper and was still working for Numotion until his illness made it difficult to work.
He was a member of the Camp Hill Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses with his beloved wife, Judith, who passed away in 2017 after over 58 years of marriage. In addition to his parents and wife, Ron was preceded in death by their daughter, Jodi Loper.
A die-hard “tinker-er”, Ron spent many hours with his hot rod for which he won an award at the Squeaky Rail Diner (prior to him accidentally setting it on fire). He was an avid collector of innumerable items, including black powder guns and cowboy and Native American relics, and enjoyed listening to Outlaw Country music, especially by Johnny Cash. You could often find him watching the Velocity Channel and Grit TV and passed on his love of Westerns to his grandsons with Western Movie Mondays. Ron loved playing football when he was younger, and as a dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, enjoyed showing off a picture of him with Hines Ward.
Mostly, Ron was a family man. Sometimes working two or three jobs to provide for them, he still managed to make time to be with them and instill in them the qualities he valued: knowledge, a work ethic, and most of all, a sense of family. His sense of humor and strong will kept him going through several bouts of cancer and other illnesses. Forever his children will laugh if one of them says the dreaded words “All you gotta do”, knowing what comes next. Forever they will cherish the memories and laughter and banter they all had with him.
Surviving are his 7 children: Robin Boeckel (and her husband, Timothy), Enola, Ronald Loper, Jr. (Kristin), Camp Hill, Mark Loper (Rose), Landisburg, Vicki Hunt (Scott), Lewisberry, Jason Loper, Camp Hill, Jeremy Loper (Karen), Camp Hill and Leslie Loper-Glazer (Chad), Enola; sister: June Hershberger, Lewisberry; brother: Larry Loper, Jr., St. Petersburg, FL; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many other dear friends and family members.
