Rosa M. Rivera

Rosa M. Rivera, age 82, of Harrisburg, passed away on November 27, 2023 at Harrisburg Hospital.  She was born on July 17, 1941, in Cidra, Puerto Rico to her loving parents:  the late Antonio Melendez and Elena Ortiz.

A woman of many talents, she had an exceptional skill in the kitchen and was known for her culinary expertise.  Her family and friends often gathered at her home to savor the delicious dishes she prepared with love.  The memories of her cooking will forever be treasured by all those who had the pleasure of tasting her creations.

Music, dancing with her family, and singing brought immense joy into Rosa's life.  Her love for music was contagious and inspired everyone around her to let loose and enjoy life.

Dressing up and going out with family were activities that Rosa cherished deeply.  She had an impeccable sense of style and took great pride in her appearance.  Whenever there was an opportunity to gather with loved ones or attend a social event, Rosa would put on her finest attire and radiate elegance.

Traveling was another passion that enriched Rosa's life.  Exploring new places with family brought her immense happiness and she embraced every opportunity to create lasting memories with her loved ones by her side.  The shared experiences during these trips created bonds that will forever hold a special place in the hearts of all who accompanied her.

Rosa had a knack for making everyone feel welcomed and loved.  Her warm smile and caring nature touched the lives of many. Family meant everything to Rosa, and she dedicated herself to nurturing and caring for them throughout her life.

Rosa's beloved husband, Abelio Rivera, passed away in 2020 after sixty years of marriage. Although saddened by his loss, Rosa found solace in the memories they had created together and the strength of their enduring love.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and kinship.  Surviving are her children: Migdalia Vega (Riscardo), José N. Rivera (Sandra Santos), Yolanda Rivera (Angel Rodriguez), Maria D. Mejia (Samuel), José A. Rivera (Iris), Carmen D. Delgado (Ariel).  Her memory will forever be cherished by her brother Luis A. Melendez as well.

She also leaves behind a treasure trove of grandchildren - twenty-three to be exact - along with thirty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Family was everything to Rosa, and she took pride in seeing her family grow with each passing generation.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Luis Rivera, and her brothers: Antonio Melendez and Fidel Melendez.

A viewing to honor the life of Rosa M. Rivera will be held at Kimmel Funeral Home, Inc., 2001 Market Street in Harrisburg on December 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM.  The funeral service will commence at 12:00 PM on the same day.  Burial beside her beloved husband will be in Paxtang Cemetery.

Rosa will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.  Her zest for life, love for family, and remarkable spirit will continue to inspire us all.  As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, let us celebrate the joy she brought into our lives and carry forward the values she held dear.

May Rosa M. Rivera rest in eternal peace as we hold her memory close to our hearts.
