Ruth Held Shaffer

Ruth Held Shaffer, Middletown, passed away one month following her 100th birthday on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Frey Village.

Born November 2, 1919 in Milwaukee, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Henrietta “Hattie” (Leicht) Held and was a graduate of Milwaukee High School.

She was retired from Pomeroy’s, but she was especially proud of her work as a Tipstaff for Dauphin County.

Ruth enjoyed Word Seek puzzles, game shows and watching Dr. Phil and belonged to TOPS. She was also an accomplished seamstress, often making clothing for her family.

Her beloved husband, Charles “Todd” J. Shaffer passed away in 1966 after 24 years of marriage. In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Mehaffie, two brothers and a sister.

Surviving is her daughter, Daryl S. Graybill (and her husband, John), Hershey; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Chaplain Wayne Muthler officiating.
