Santos R. (Macho) Rivera Sanchez

Santos R. Rivera Sanchez, 41, of Crescent Street, Harrisburg, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Holy Spirit Hospital.

Known to many as “Macho”, he was the son of the late Santos R. Rivera Santiago and Fredesvinda Sanchez Arce, and was born April 3, 1980 in Ponce, Puerto Rico.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Maggie Rivera and Leornilda Rivera.

As a child in Puerto Rico, Macho enjoyed playing and riding bikes with his cousins.  He also liked fishing, walking and hanging out with his brothers.  Macho had a wonderful sense of humor and truly loved to laugh.  He read and knew the Bible well; watched old cartoons and movies on TV; played pool; and liked listening to music and dancing Bachata, Merengue and Salsa.  He was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Harrisburg and attended John Harris High School.

Surviving is his girlfriend:  Nelly Ortega; his step-father:  Edwin Figueroa (and Sara Acosta), Penbrook; 2 brothers:  Santos –Francisco Rivera and Jorman Santiago, both of Harrisburg; sister:  Diana Rivera; step-brother:  Diomar Figueroa; step-sisters:  Clorisa Stout and Raisa Lopez; and his aunts:  Myra Sanchez, Lemoyne and Teresa Rivera, Puerto Rico; two uncles:  Gregorio Sanchez and Santos Sanchez, both of Harrisburg, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends, all of whom will miss him greatly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at his church, 1439 Market Street, Harrisburg, with Father Orlando Reyes officiating.  There will be a viewing at the church from 10:00 am until 10:45 am.  Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Santos R. Rivera Sanchez, de 41 años, de Crescent Street, Harrisburg, falleció inesperadamente el domingo 27 de febrero de 2022 en el Holy Spirit Hospital.

Conocido por muchos como “Macho”, era hijo del fallecido Santos R. Rivera Santiago y Fredesvinda Sánchez Arce, y nació el 3 de abril de 1980 en Ponce, Puerto Rico.  Además de sus padres, le precedieron en la muerte sus hermanas Maggie Rivera y Leornilda Rivera.

De niño en Puerto Rico, Macho disfrutaba jugar y andar en bicicleta con sus primos.  También le gustaba pescar, caminar y pasar el rato con sus hermanos.  Macho tenía un maravilloso sentido del humor y realmente le encantaba reír.  Leía y conocía bien la Biblia;  vio viejos dibujos animados y películas en la televisión;  jugaba al billar;  y le gustaba escuchar música y bailar Bachata, Merengue y Salsa.  Fue miembro durante mucho tiempo de la Iglesia Católica St. Francis of Assisi, Harrisburg y asistió a la escuela secundaria John Harris.

Sobrevive su novia: Nelly Ortega; su padrastro: Edwin Figueroa (y Sara Acosta), Penbrook; 2 hermanos: Santos –Francisco Rivera y Jorman Santiago, ambos de Harrisburg; hermana: Diana Rivera; hermanastro: Diomar Figueroa; hermanastras: Clorisa Stout y Raisa López; y sus tías: Myra Sanchez, Lemoyne y Teresa Rivera, Puerto Rico; dos tíos: Gregorio Sánchez y Santos Sánchez, ambos de Harrisburg, primos, sobrinas, sobrinos y queridos amigos, quienes lo extrañarán mucho.

La misa de cristiana sepultura se celebrará el miércoles 9 de marzo de 2022 a las 11:00 a. m. en su iglesia, 1439 Market Street, Harrisburg, oficiando el padre Orlando Reyes.  Habrá un velorio en la iglesia desde las 10:00 am hasta las 10:45 am.  El entierro será en el Cementerio de la Santa Cruz.
