Susan E. Houghton, 70, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Georgetown (KY) Community Hospital.
Born June 30, 1946 in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Dorothy E. (Hall) Houghton and was a 1964 graduate of Central Dauphin High School. Following graduation, Sue became the second generation in her family to attend Shippensburg University, ultimately receiving a Master’s Degree in Education. She returned to her alma mater high school district as an elementary school teacher and retired after 35 years teaching 5th and 6th grade at Southside and Linglestown Elementary School.
Always an advocate for children’s rights and teacher support, Sue was a member of the NEA and was a member, former Building Representative and Vice President of PSEA and Past President of the PSEA-Retired.
Sports always played an important part in her life. She played basketball and softball, and coached the Daffodil Softball team. She loved all football and college basketball and was an avid life-long Phillies fan. She also enjoyed traveling and collecting birds. Mostly, she was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend, and will be truly missed.
Surviving are her sister, Helen Patrick (and her husband, Barry), Stamping Ground, KY, her beloved niece, Katie Patrick; and many other dear friends and co-workers.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 7, 2017 at Crosspoint United Methodist Church, 430 Colonial Road, Harrisburg, with the Rev. David Biser officiating. Burial in Shoop’s Garden of Rest will be held at the convenience of the family.
